Former Florida governor says US embargo of Cuba should be lifted

charlie-cristHAVANA, Cuba - Charlie Crist, a former governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011, described as an ineffective relic Washington's economic and financial embargo of Cuba and said it should be lifted.

Crist, a 57-year-old former Republican, who is now running for re-election in November as a Democrat, said in a press statement that the US measure has been useless over the past 50 years and it is time to put an end to it.

If Washington lifts the embargo it will allow US farmers and manufacturers to establish commercial relations with Cuba and sell their products and services there, which would boost the local economy and create jobs, he noted.
