Iran says Venezuela meeting with OPEC will have a negative impact
CARACAS, TEHERAN - Venezuela has called an emergency meeting to discuss steps to boost oil prices, minimal since 2003. But Iran and the Persian Gulf OPEC members have refused to call a special session.
The Iranian Oil Minister, Bijan Zanganeh, said an emergency meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) would affect the oil market if it doesn’t make a decision to support prices.
“There should be an intention to make a firm decision on such a meeting, otherwise the meeting would have a negative impact on oil markets,” said Minister Zanganeh, quoted by the international news agency Reuters.
