Political opinion towards Cuba may be changing in Florida

HavanaHAVANA, Cuba - Some 53 percent of citizens in the US state of Florida now support the lifting of the over-50-year US economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba, according to a recent poll by Public Policy Polling.

According to a report on the local Miami New Times website, the poll revealed that only 22 percent of Floridians support the current Cuba policy.

In an article published on Thursday, the publication said that, despite differing political views, "the idea of ending the embargo has support across the spectrum, with 57 percent of Democrats and 42 percent of Republicans.

A poll by the Atlantic Council last February found 56 percent of all US citizens support the normalization of relations with Cuba and, on that occasion, the number of Floridians supporting the move amounted to 62 percent.
