Shigemoto will be held until Monday

PHILIPSBURG – Hiro Shigemoto, former United People's (UP) party finance minister, was led before the Judge of Instruction on Thursday morning, December 20, and the judge ordered that Shigemoto's pre-trial detention be suspended on Monday, December 24, at 3:00pm, according to Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos.

After being released on Monday, Shigemoto will be required to remain available for questioning at any time if needed.

Shigemoto is accused of signing off double payments of an astronomical amount for services rendered to government. He was arrested on Monday, December 17, on suspicion of fraud, money-laundering and embezzlement in the ongoing Piranha investigation as a result of which Windward Islands Airways International Winair Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Robert Gibbs also was arrested.

Gibbs was released last week, but he too must remain available for questioning at any time, Mos said.
