Storm ‘Kirk’ no threat to ABC and SSS islands

Storm-Orkaan-KirkWILLEMSTAD - The center of Tropical Storm "Kirk" is at a distance of almost 900 kilometers southwest of the Cape Verde Islands this morning. "Kirk" continues to move westward and it is expected to become a little stronger in the next two to three days.

At present, however, it is still not expected to become a hurricane (strongest sustained wind speeds of 119 km / h or more). This system is approaching the eastern Caribbean in the second half of the coming week and there is the possibility that, as happened with "Isaac", it will weaken to a "tropical wave" by then.

For the time being it does not pose a threat to Curaçao or any other land area. However, the Meteorological Department of Curaçao continues to closely monitor the development of "Kirk" in the coming days.
