Venezuelan General Hugo Carvajal detained in Aruba

carvajal-GORANJESTAD - In the evening hours of Wednesday, General Hugo Carvajal, who was head of the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DIM) from 2004 to 2009, was allegedly detained in Aruba, a military source revealed.

Carvajal was appointed consul of Venezuela in Aruba in January. United States requested the extradition of Carvajal because the Treasury Department says he gave "material support" to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). For this reason the above mentioned Department sanctioned Carvajal and also General Henry Rangel Silva and Captain Ramon Rodriguez Chacin Navio.

Based on this measure, the U.S. allegedly requested the Netherlands the extradition of General Carvajal Aruba for being a country that belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the informant revealed. It is unknown whether the Venezuelan military was already moved to USA.
