Caribbean Medical University health fair

HF (English)This Saturday July 12th 2014 the students of Caribbean Medical University will be organizing the CMU Health Fair for the general public at Brionplein, right in front of the Brionplein Café from 7:00AM to 3:00PM. During the Health Fair all persons who so desire can have their blood pressure taken and their blood sugar levels checked (diabetes screening). We will also be measuring your BMI (body mass index). The results are discussed with each volunteer right away and additional information about diabetes and possible heart diseases due to a.o. high blood pressure are explained to the participant. Folders on heart disease are being supplied by the Curaçao Heart Foundation. If needed, participants are encouraged to visit their doctor for additional consultation.

The purpose of the training is for the students to get a chance to practice a few simple medical procedures and at the same time increase the awareness of the health of our community by accentuating the importance of two of the most important causes of illness on the island, being “high blood pressure” and “diabetes”.

We are also planning to organize a walk/run around Brionplein at around 10:00AM. So for those who would like to participate, please bring along your sneakers and take steps to combat obesity and let us help steer you towards a healthier life-style.
