Hr. Ms. Friesland

FrieslandWILLEMSTAD – Hundreds of people came out to see the arrival of the brand new Royal Dutch Navy ship "Hr. Ms. Friesland" in Curaçao. The 108-metre-long Holland Class oceangoing patrol vessel can be used for Coast Guard tasks, combating disasters, anti-drug operations and up to fighting piracy.

The station ship, in the Dutch Caribbean during the next four months, has a crew of 55 that can be expanded with specialists to 90. Its "stealth" shape gives it reduced radar visibility. On board are two speedy FRISC boats and a Belgian Alouette helicopter. The latter suffered damage to its tail in heavy seas, but is being repaired at the Coast Guard support point at Hato Airport.
