The Britannic Club of Curaçao donated the proceeds of the 2017 Pub Quiz to 13 different charities

Group fotoWILLEMSTAD - During the New Year’s meeting on Tuesday, January 30, the Britannic Club of Curaçao donated the proceeds of the 2017 Pub Quiz to 13 different charities. The donations were presented at the recently opened Children's museum, also one of the recipients of a donation this year. The Club has been able to increase the amount available to the charity community by 6,000 up from 19,000 in 2017 to just over 25,000 in this donation round. Also, the number of charities the Club has been able to assist was increased from 10 in 2017 to 13 charities.

The following organizations received a cheque this week: Carf, Children's Museum Curaçao, Dolphin Academy for het Bayena i Dolfein Program, Hospice Arco Avent, Sea Turtle Conservation, Siloam Children's Hospice, Stichting Dierenbescherming, Stichting Dierenhulp, Stichting Equine, Stichting Felis, Stichting Kinderoorden Brakkeput, Stichting Shimaruku en Tinkersjóp. Representatives from the different organizations gave an update on last year's activities and their new plans.

Established in 1951, the Britannic Club was initially a volunteer club for ex-patriots posted in Curaçao. One of the primary purposes of the club is to raise money for the many diverse charities that serve the community here on Curaçao. From the funds raised, the club disperses money to a wide variety of well-deserving local charities to support them through the year. Many of these charities do not receive government funding, so these donations are especially appreciated. The Club takes an active interest in the charities they support, visiting each charity personally to follow up on activities and to identify new needs they might have.

Apart from the yearly Pub Quiz, the Club last year published a Birthday Calendar with pictures of Curaçao scenes, attractive for residents and also a great souvenir for tourists. These calendars can be bought from Club members and at a number of local shops like Bruna, Mensings, the Goods in Punda and Mon Art Craft & Gift Shop in the Rif Fort. With the proceeds of the calendar, the Club will be able to support even more charities.
